Rajahmundry: With hardly a year’s time left for Lok Sabha elections, the Rajahmundry constituency has become the cynosure of all eyes, particularly those from different political outfits.
This special attention, it is said is due to the varied electorate favour in respect of major political parties in the last three decades. The constituency holds the record of electing representatives of Congress, TD and the BJP. The S.P.P.B.K brothers Pattabhi Rama Rao and Satyanarayana Rao represented the constituency in the Union Cabinet though from different political outfits.
While the former on behalf of Congress the later under NDA government represented the constituency on behalf of the BJP. Under this backdrop, the inclination of film star-turned MP Jayaprada, who represents Rampur in UP in the present Lok Sabha, the whirlwind coverage of the constituency with different social service activities by another film and TV artiste and TD leader Maganti Murali Mohan (who unsuccessfully contested in the 2009 polls) adds to the aspirations in the next polls. One more to join the fray is local bodies MLC from East Godavari and prominent leader from the Kamma social section Boddu Bhaskara Rama Rao.
The AP Congress committee general secretary Gidugu Rudraraju said that Vundavalli will definitely contest the polls on behalf of Congress unless there is a last minute change.
The TD state general secretary Gorantla Buchhayya Chowdary said on Wednesday that Murali Mohan is certain to contest this time too on behalf of the TD and party has cleared his candidature. When his attention was drawn about Jayaprada’s inclination towards Rajahmundry, the senior leader and former minister said that both Jayaprada and her mentor Amar Singh were expelled from Samajwadi Party. Hence, she might be in search of safer constituency.
On the other hand, Bhaskara Rama Rao confirmed that he sought the YSRC seat for his son Venkata Ramana Chowdary.
