Anantapur: Primary education minister Sake Sailajanath has directed the officials to initiate measures to mitigate the drinking water problem in the district.
Reviewing the drinking water problem in the district with officials at DWMA hall here on Wednesday, the minister asked them to submit a contingency plan to tackle the drinking water shortage in the district.
He said he would make efforts to release additional funds for drinking water supply crisis during summer.
He directed the collector to submit a report on the contingency plan by March 9 to speed up the remedial measures. Referring to depletion of groundwater sources, Sailajanath directed the Rural Water Supply authorities to start supplying drinking water through private tankers from nearby sources.
The minister asked the RWS SE to submit a detailed report over the drinking water crisis in Yadiki and the estimates for laying pipelines in the villages.
Collector V. Drugadas said officials were focussing their attention on drinking water. RWS SE K. Prabhakar Rao, panchayat raj SE Ravi Kumar and DPO Sankaraiah participated in the meeting.
In a related development, Anantapur ZP had set up a helpline centre on drinking water problem at ZP office here on Wednesday.
ZP CEO V. Subba Reddy inaugurated the helpline centre and suggested the people to call on 08554-275064 to inform officials about the water problem in their village.
