Washington: The US State Department spokes-man said today that it “would appear” that the border agreement, signed between People’s China and Pakistan “serves the interest of Pakistan” but expressed concern about its effect on the Kashmir talks between Pakistan and India. In a carefully worded statement, he said: “Our only concern with respect to the agreement is the possible effect of its timing on the India-Pakistan talks on Kashmir which are scheduled to resume in Calcutta on March 12.”
In fact, it would appear that the signing of the agreement has caused some uneasiness at the State Department.
